Starbucks-Inspired S’mores Tarts

Recreate Starbucks Magic at Home: The Best S’more Tarts Recipe

Delicious Starbucks-inspired S'more Tart, ready to be enjoyed

There’s something undeniably nostalgic and utterly comforting about s’mores. That perfect trifecta of toasted marshmallow, melted chocolate, and crisp graham cracker brings back memories of bonfires, camping trips, and endless summer nights. But what if you could capture that magic in a neat, portable, and utterly delicious form, reminiscent of your favorite coffee shop treat? That’s precisely what we’re aiming for with this incredible Starbucks copycat S’more Tarts recipe!

My inspiration to recreate these delightful S’more tarts struck after enjoying them at Starbucks. I was instantly captivated by how they perfectly mirrored the classic campfire experience, but with a significant advantage: no sticky mess. Everything is beautifully contained within a firm, buttery tart shell, making them ideal for any occasion, from an afternoon treat to a sophisticated dessert. This recipe delivers a taste that is remarkably close to the Starbucks version, if not even better, allowing you to enjoy that gourmet bakery quality right in your own kitchen.

Crafting the Perfect S’more Tart Base

For these tarts, I chose to use extra-large muffin tins. This not only creates a substantial, satisfying tart but also ensures a generous amount of that irresistible filling. The foundation of our tart is a perfectly balanced graham cracker crust. It’s firm enough to hold all the gooey goodness yet crumbles delicately with every bite, providing that essential textural contrast to the smooth chocolate and fluffy marshmallow. The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity; with just a few steps, you’ll have a batch of these delectable treats ready to impress.

The Art of the Chocolate Filling

To achieve the ideal depth of flavor and sweetness, I’ve opted for a blend of semi-sweet and milk chocolate for the filling. This combination creates a rich, decadent center that’s not overly sweet, perfectly complementing the graham cracker crust and the toasted marshmallow topping. The chocolate sets beautifully, creating a satisfying snap before melting in your mouth. This attention to detail ensures that every element of the tart contributes to an authentic and elevated s’mores experience.

INGREDIENTS for Smore Tarts:

Gathering your ingredients is the first step to creating these delightful S’more Tarts. Each component plays a crucial role in replicating that iconic flavor profile. Ensure you have fresh graham crackers, quality chocolate, and fluffy marshmallows for the best results. The specific measurements are outlined in the recipe card below, but here’s a visual reminder of some key items.

How to Make Smore Tarts :

Creating these S’more Tarts is a straightforward and enjoyable process. Follow these step-by-step instructions carefully to achieve perfect results every time. Precision in baking, especially with crusts, helps ensure a firm yet tender base for your chocolate and marshmallow layers.

  1. Prepare the Graham Cracker Crumbs: The first crucial step is to finely crush your graham crackers. For best results and a uniform crust, a food processor works wonders. Alternatively, place the cookies in a large zip-lock bag, seal it, and use a rolling pin to crush them into a fine, sandy texture. Ensure there are no large chunks, as this will affect the consistency of your tart crust.
  2. Form the Crust Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the finely crushed graham crackers with all-purpose flour, baking soda, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and salt. Whisk or fork them together thoroughly until all dry ingredients are well distributed. Then, add one egg and the melted unsalted butter. Mix vigorously, initially with a fork or whisk, then switch to your hands to fully incorporate everything and form a cohesive dough ball. This ensures the butter and egg bind all the crumbs together perfectly.
  3. Preheat Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175°C). Having the oven at the correct temperature before placing your tarts inside is vital for even baking and achieving that golden-brown crust.
  4. Shape the Tart Shells: Using a 1/4 measuring cup, scoop the crumb mixture evenly into each cavity of your extra-large muffin tin. This technique helps ensure that all your tarts are roughly the same size and have a consistent crust thickness. Press the crumb mixture firmly down into the bottom of each tin and up the sides a little to form a distinct tart shell shape. A small, flat-bottomed glass or your fingers can help achieve a neat and even crust.
  5. Bake the Crusts: Place the muffin tin with the formed tart shells into the preheated oven and bake for exactly 10 minutes. The crusts will become fragrant and lightly golden.
  6. Flatten and Cool: Tarts will slightly puff up from baking due to the butter melting and ingredients expanding. Immediately upon removing them from the oven, use the back of a spoon to gently flatten the bottoms and press the sides back up, reshaping them into perfect tart shells. Allow them to cool completely in the muffin tin before proceeding. This step is crucial for maintaining the tart shape.
  7. Prepare the Chocolate Filling: While the tart crusts are cooling, combine both the semi-sweet chocolate cups and the broken-up Hershey’s milk chocolate bars into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute on high. Remove the bowl and stir the chocolate until it becomes completely smooth and all the chocolate is melted. If there are still lumps, microwave for additional 15-second intervals, stirring after each, until perfectly smooth. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as it can seize.
  8. Fill the Tart Shells with Chocolate: Transfer the melted chocolate into a piping bag or a sturdy zip-lock bag. If using a zip-lock bag, snip off one bottom corner to create a small opening. Carefully pipe the chocolate mixture into each cooled tart shell, filling them about halfway. Use the back of a spoon to gently smooth out the tops of the chocolate filling for a neat finish.
  9. Set the Chocolate: Refrigerate the filled tarts until the chocolate filling is completely set and firm. This usually takes about 30-60 minutes, depending on your refrigerator’s temperature. A firm chocolate base is essential for easy removal and a clean bite.
  10. Remove from Tins: Once the chocolate is firm, carefully run a sharp knife around the sides of each tart. This will help release them from the muffin tins. They should pop out easily if adequately chilled and the tins were prepared (though often not needed for well-formed graham cracker crusts).
  11. Add Marshmallows and Broil: This is the exciting final step! Just before serving, top each tart with a large marshmallow. Place the tarts on a baking sheet and broil them in your oven. Keep a very close eye on them, as marshmallows toast very quickly under the broiler! Broil until the marshmallows become beautifully golden-brown and fluffy. This typically takes only 30-60 seconds. Remove immediately to prevent burning.
  12. Serve and Enjoy: Allow the marshmallows to cool slightly before serving. The combination of warm, gooey marshmallow, melted chocolate, and crisp crust is truly heavenly.

Tips for Success & Freezing Instructions

These tarts make for a beautiful presentation and are incredibly versatile. One of their best features is how well they freeze! If you plan to make them ahead or have leftovers, you can easily store them. To freeze, simply prepare the tarts up to the point where the chocolate filling has set (Step 8). Do not add the marshmallows before freezing. Once the chocolate is firm, place the tarts in an airtight container or freezer bag, separated by parchment paper, and freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to enjoy them, simply defrost the tarts at room temperature or gently warm them in a toaster oven for a few minutes. Then, add the marshmallows and broil as per Step 10 for the best results and a fresh, gooey topping.

I was inspired to recreate these S’more tarts after trying these a few times at Starbucks. I love that they taste like the classic s’mores that you actually make near bonfires but less mess as everything is enclosed in a firm tart. They are delicious and pretty close to the Starbucks version.

Ingredients

  • 1 2/3 cups finely crushed graham crackers about 1 1/2 pkgs from the box
  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 stick of unsalted butter 1/2 cup, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of baking soda
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
  • 4 1.55 oz Hershey’s milk chocolate bars broken into pieces
  • 11 large marshmallows

Instructions

  • Finely crush the graham crackers using a food processor or rolling pin in a sealed bag.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the graham cracker crumbs, flour, salt, baking soda, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Add the melted butter and egg, then mix well with your hands until a cohesive dough ball forms.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175°C).
  • Using a 1/4 measuring cup, scoop the dough into each extra-large muffin tin. Press firmly down and up the sides to form a tart shell.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Tarts will puff up slightly. Remove from oven and immediately flatten the sides and bottom with the back of a spoon. Let cool completely in the tins.
  • While tarts cool, combine both chocolates (broken Hershey bars and semi-sweet chips) in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, then stir until smooth and fully melted.
  • Transfer melted chocolate to a piping bag or a zip-lock bag with one corner snipped off. Pipe chocolate into each cooled tart shell, filling about halfway. Smooth the tops with a spoon.
  • Refrigerate tarts until the chocolate is completely set and firm, about 30-60 minutes.
  • Once chilled, run a sharp knife around the sides of each tart to loosen and carefully remove them from the muffin tins. They should pop out easily.
  • Right before serving, top each tart with a large marshmallow. Place tarts on a baking sheet and broil for 30-60 seconds, or until marshmallows are golden and fluffy. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  • Enjoy your homemade Starbucks Copycat S’more Tarts!
